WAHA Presents ‘Entertaining Lives’, The 22nd Annual Living History Tour At Angelus Rosedale Cemetery
On Saturday, September 29, at the 22nd annual Living History Tour, visitors will “meet” some of Los Angeles’s most interesting early performers and entertainment industry personages as costumed actors, at graveside, portray the lives of a Civil War-era escape artist, a headlining dancer who lost her life in the 1933 Long Beach earthquake, a mezzo soprano who fought for civil rights, and a Chinese-American dancer/actor/MC, among other quirky and wonderful characters. Tours depart every 25 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Advance reservations are required.
Tour University Park in West Adams Area June 9th
‘PATHWAYS TO YESTERYEAR: STROLLING THE STREET OF DREAMS’ is the title of the June 9th walking tour of the University Park neighborhood of West Adams. That's just over a week away, on a Saturday.
What will you see?
A portal to the past. Mansions like the one at right, which is the Dockweiler-Stearns residence. This is the last true mansion in University Park, completed over 110 years ago. Only two families have owned the place since and they haven't changed much.
There's even a DS monogram on the chimney that you can see in this Flicker photo. Flicker says there was a murder-suicide at the mansion in 1924--hopefully, that story will be part of the tour.
A centerpiece of the self-guided walking route is Chester Place, our city's oldest gated community. Today it's Mount St. Mary's College, but in 1899 it opened as an enclave for the city's elite.

WAHA’s ANNUAL SPRING HOMES & ARCHITECTURE TOUR: Pathways to Yesteryear: Strolling the Street of Dreams, on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is one of the most highly anticipated events every year in Los Angeles County. The region is rich with history, some of it from Hollywood’s big screen era, but lots of it also great American culture, which just happens to have occurred near and in what we consider to be Hollywood. However, political greats, inventors, writers and the like have all called this region home.

When a magazine interviews a celebrity, the interview will very often press to find out the famous person's favorite brand of dish soap or must-have socks.
That's all well and good and, yep, we've gone out and bought the socks after reading those articles. But we're keen to know about deeper matters, like place, and why a celebrity feels drawn to living in and supporting a specific area. And especially if that area is hallowed for history and creativity and some truly spectacular, wood-and-stained-glass-laden homes.
