Many prominent people in Los Angeles life have lived in West Adams. It grew into a suburb for wealthy figures in business and politics beginning in the 1880s east of Figueroa. They were joined by film stars, producers, and directors until the founding of Beverly Hills in 1917. After the breaking of restrictive housing convenants in 1948 many famous African Americans made their homes here. We are working to compile biographical sketches of some of these interesting or famous people and our initial results are posted below.
